Weary of responding to another attack on institutionalized programs designed to promote equal access and opportunity to education and employment?
Tired of the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer?
Struggling to hold on to values you consider critical to a democratic society?
Overcoming these and other challenges will be the task facing
civil rights and human relations leaders as they begin the process of drafting an agenda for California. CAHRO plans to host an overnight retreat in northern California on October 9th and 10th
to serve as its first step in participating in a dialog on how to regain the offensive and move the civil rights and human relations agenda forward.
CAHRO's Silver Anniversary Conference, scheduled tentatively for November 19th-20th
in Los Angeles at a site still to be determined, will serve as a follow-up to the retreat. Issues raised at the retreat will be synthesized and participants from throughout California will be given the opportunity to explore the recommended strategies and discuss the feasibility of their implementation.
CAHRO is soliciting your suggestions of leaders to invite to the Retreat. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered by the Association. The Board will ultimately select among applicants who meet the following
criteria:
1. They are actively engaged in human relations or civil rights work;
2. Their views or organizations influence the actions of large numbers of people in their community and other communities in
California;
3. They recognize the importance of collaborating and working with others to achieve common objectives.
You may submit your name or that of someone you know. Please include a short description of why you or the person you nominate should be invited to participate at the retreat that addresses the criteria.
