Hate violence prevention networks developed out of the need for better communication and networking between various community groups in
addressing human relations and civil rights issues in their communities. Hate violence prevention networks are designed to prevent and respond to bias-motivated violence. CAHRO provides resources and
assistance in building community networks in California to address hate violence and hate crime.Hate violence prevention networks typically consist of community members from diverse communities, human relations and
civil rights organizations, religious institutions, public agencies, criminal justice institutions and schools. The objectives of a hate violence prevention networks are:
- To provide a supportive, non-law enformcement, environment where victims can report incidents of hate violence and intergoup conflict.
- To provide assistance to vicitims of hate violence
- To ensure local police departments, district attorney and city attorneys adopt and implement appropriate policies and protocols for taking reports and responding to hate violence and hate crime incidents.
- To ensure criminal justice agencies and school provide reports of hate violence and hate crimes to the Hate Violence Prevention Network
- To ensure local school districts adopt and implement appropriate policies and procedures for responding to and taking reports of hate violence and intergroup conflict.
- To sensitize editors and reporters about the impact of the media on intergroup relations and hate violence.
- To reduce gang violence and criminality
