This is a
sample job description for the position of executive director within a human relations commission. (Your human relations commission)
is currently seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director for the Human Relations (Rights) Commission.
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor's degree from a recognized four-year college or
university. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in sociology, social welfare, social work, or a related field is a plus. Candidates must also have two years of full-time paid professional experience in an
administrative position with responsibility for directing community based programs and activities designed to promote harmonious human relations. Experience directing the community based programs and activities of
an organization engaged in the study and resolution of a broad range of human relations issues and problems is especially desired.
Ten years of professional experience in an administrative position with
progressive responsibility for directing the activities as described above may be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement.
Other personal attributes and abilities desired include: knowledge of community
demographics and trends, as well as critical issues facing a human relations commission; strong leadership skills to facilitate planning and organizing effective human relations programs and activities; commitment to
serve the community and its citizens with the utmost personal integrity in all situations; strong communications skills to effectively represent the Human Relations commission at government, community, and public
meetings; and the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with representatives of diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious groups, governmental officials, employees, the media, and the public.
