SCHOOL INTERGROUP CONFLICT RESOLUTION

The Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP) established by Educators for Social Responsibility is based in New York and directed by Linda Lantieri and Janet Patti.*  RCCP is a program that was synthesized from several successful programs operating in the arenas of student conflict resolution programs; reducing intergroup tensions, and peer counseling.  Cooperative learning techniques are incorporated in the methodology.  RCCP contracts for services and has set up programs in the school districts serving the communities of Vista and Escondido in north San Diego County.  CAHRO selected this program as a model because the principles underlying the programs are sound and the individual parts of the program have stood the test of time.

The downside to this program lies in its virtue.  It is comprehensive and requires a serious commitment on the part of a school district to adopt it.  There is extensive teacher training, and unless the school district is willing to direct significant resources to the project it will remain out of reach.  Please contact CAHRO if you are aware of school intergroup conflict prevention and response programs that should be considered a best practice.
