Planning Next Year's Annual Conference CAHRO's Conference
Planning Committee held its initial meeting to discuss themes and programs for next year's annual conference. CAHRO Board members, Ann Noel, Norma Mencacci, Bob Delgado, Phillip Leonard and CAHRO Staff, Michael Sova, Khanh Ngo, and
Fred Persily, along with Herb Castillo from the San Francisco Foundation met and discussed strategies, objectives and logistics for next year's conference.The annual conference which will be held March 1-3, 2001 in
San Francisco. A police-community relations symposium will be held this November along with CAHRO's General Meeting. The overall goal for the conference is to improve inter-group relations and address income
disparity in California. The three objectives are:
- In areas with no human relations commissions: Enable communities to develop an action plan for establishing an inclusive intergroup network and organizational capacity by providing training and technical assistance.
- For communities with human relations commissions that lack an inclusive network: Provide training and assistance to enable those commissions to establish or enhance intergroup networks.
- Establish a system for ongoing collaboration among existing networks addressing intergroup relations and economic issues statewide.
The conference will include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
- Technical assistance to establish action plans for building networks for commissions and for people in communities without commissions;
- Technical assistance and strategies to establish human relations commissions;
- Network collaboration with planning for ongoing communication
- Building methods for youth and adults to work together on civil rights issues while maintaining mutual respect
- Establishing regional multi-disciplinary alliances to address intergroup relations and income disparity
The conference committee is surveying faith-based organizations, human relations commissions, community-based organizations, and representatives from academia, business, youth, labor, and environmental organization to
ensure their input and involvement in the conference polanning. |
